Executive Director
Iowa Head Start Association (IHSA)
The Iowa Head Start Association (IHSA) is seeking a collaborative and strategic leader to serve as its next Executive Director. This position provides statewide leadership to support Iowa’s Head Start and Early Head Start programs while advancing the mission and goals of IHSA.
Working in partnership with the Board of Directors, the Executive Director oversees the day-to-day operations of the Association, supports membership engagement, strengthens partnerships across the early childhood system, and represents IHSA at the state, regional, and national levels.
Core Responsibilities
• Provide leadership for the strategic direction and operations of the Iowa Head Start Association
• Work collaboratively with the Board of Directors to implement IHSA’s strategic plan and priorities
• Support and engage IHSA membership through communication, training opportunities, and initiatives
• Build and maintain strong relationships with local, state, regional, and national partners
• Provide financial oversight and stewardship of IHSA resources
• Represent IHSA in public settings, including meetings with partners, policymakers, and stakeholders
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as early childhood education, nonprofit management, human services, organizational leadership, or a related discipline required
• Experience with budgets, financial reporting, and fiscal management
• Experience in nonprofit leadership, association management, or program administration preferred
• Knowledge of Head Start and/or early childhood systems preferred
• Demonstrated skills in collaboration, communication, and organizational leadership
• Interest in statewide systems work and advocacy
Additional Information
• This is a full-time exempt position.
• The employee will reside within the state of Iowa.
• The position is remote, with the employee’s work location determined in collaboration with the Board and subject to Board approval. Limited travel within Iowa and occasional regional or national travel may be required.
• The employee is responsible for providing reliable transportation to attend meetings and events.
Compensation
Starting salary range $60,000 – $70,000 will be determined by the Board of Directors based on experience and qualifications.
