Presented by Emily De sPlanque with Molina Healthcare\n 10-12pm - Prioritizing Our Health and W ellbeing: An Introduction to Secondary Traumatic Stress - presented by And rea Decklau with Iowa ACEs 360\n\nACES - What are they and how do they imp act our students and families? Emily DesPlanque with Molina Healthcare wi ll be joining us to talk about ACES. What are ACES and what can we do to h elp children who have experienced ACES? How do ACES affect children and ad ults and what can we do to prevent them?\n\nAdverse childhood experiences\ , or ACEs\, are potentially traumatic events that occur in childhood. Also included are aspects of the child’s environment that can undermine thei r sense of safety\, stability\, and bonding.\n\nMany other traumatic exper iences could impact health and wellbeing\, such as not having enough food to eat\, experiencing homelessness or unstable housing\, or experiencing d iscrimination. ACEs are linked to chronic health problems\, mental illnes s\, and substance use problems in adolescence and adulthood. ACEs can also negatively impact education\, job opportunities\, and earning potential. However\, ACEs can be prevented. Come learn more to help support children in your learning environments.\n\nPrioritizing Our Health and Wellbeing: A n Introduction to Secondary Traumatic Stress presented by Andrea Decklau\ , Research and Systems Innovation Director at Iowa ACEs 360\nThis interact ive workshop combines the science of stress with practical strategies to e nhance participants’ ability to continue supporting others without compr omising their own health and well-being.\n• Understanding Secondary Trau matic Stress (STS): Explore the signs\, symptoms\, and causes of STS\, and how it differs from other forms of stress or burnout.\n• Recognizing th e Impact: Learn how STS can affect physical\, emotional\, and mental healt h\, relationships\, and overall job satisfaction.\n• Building a Toolkit: Develop personal\, community\, and organizational strategies that prevent and mitigate the impact of STS.\n\nAndrea Dencklau\, MSW\, is the Researc h and Systems Innovation Director at Iowa ACEs 360. She has over 20\nyears of experience working in partnership with youth\, families\, advocates\, and system leaders to\npromote policies and practices that promote connect ion\, healing\, and wellbeing.
